EPSON NEW FINE ART PAPER

This week at PMA '09, Epson expanded its line of professional solutions with new Signature Worthy Hot Press and Cold Press Papers, designed for use with Epson printers. The new papers are said to yield richer blacks, smoother tonal transitions and expanded color gamuts. The Hot Press papers offer a smooth surface, while the Cold Press papers offer a textured surface. In addition, Hot Press and Cold Press Bright offer a bright white point, while the Hot Press and Cold Press Natural offer a warm white point. Cut sheet papers will be available in late April; rolls will be available later this year.

Yes this does mean that is Epson will be discontinuing the Ultrasmooth product line.

PICTORICO

Also at PMA, Mitsubishi introduced the eco-friendly Pictorico ART Kenaf Paper and Pictorico ART Kenaf Paper Unryu. Both inkjet papers are acid-free, matte finish and made with environmentally-friendly kenaf fibers. ART Kenaf comes in two thicknesses - 13.4 mil and 5.9 mil, as well as two finishes - regular and Unryu with a decorative surface - for four inkjet papers. Both sides are printable.

The Pictorico line was expanded with yet another canvas offering: PRO Photo Canvas, which has a woven coating that simulates canvas. PRO Photo Canvas adds texture and dimension to fine art prints and its patented ceramic coating dries instantly. PRO Photo Canvas features high ink absorption, a glossy finish, natural white RC paper base and a 7.1-mil thickness. PRO Photo Canvas Heavy Weight has a semi-gloss finish with a bluish-white RC paper base and is 11.6-mil thick.

New Pictorico ART Cotton has a soft, elegant texture with a smooth surface and Pictorico ART Cotton Texture I has a grain texture. Both papers are 100-percent cotton and acid-free. They are ideal for a broad range of fine art prints.

We will be carrying these papers, but please keep in mind that for the last year Mitsubishi has not stocked Pictorico adequately in the U.S. Hopefully we will see changes in that philosophy.

JAPANESE PAPERS

We are planning on adding some new inkjet papers to our line that are based on traditional Japanese type papers. I am looking for input from you on the type of paper you are looking for. We have found some that are truly coated on both sides; obviously they are thicker than a “rice” paper look. We have also found some that are more decorative. Let me know what you think. PRINTER REBATES

Both Epson and Canon currently have some rebates on their printers ranging from the 2880 and bigger. If you’re looking for a new printer and would like details on the rebates, contact Andrew@digitalartsupplies.net
